Here’s a quick hello — so you can get a sense of how I work.
There are times when life feels harder than it should, whether you’re managing anxiety, navigating relationship stress, or carrying the weight of past experiences. Maybe you’ve been doing your best to manage, but now you're ready for change.
At Equinox Therapy, I offer a calm, collaborative space where you can feel supported and understood. Many of my clients are highly sensitive, thoughtful, or emotionally attuned, and yet find themselves repeating patterns they can’t seem to shift.
Some clients come in knowing what they want to work on. Others feel disconnected or uncertain, unsure of where to begin. Either way, you’re welcome here — and together, we’ll work at a pace that supports safety, clarity, and lasting change.

James Lavino, LPC, MT-BC
I’m a licensed professional counselor and board-certified music therapist with specialized training in trauma-focused care, including EMDR.
Over the years, I’ve worked in a range of mental health settings — inpatient psychiatric hospitals, intensive outpatient programs, long-term care facilities, and outpatient therapy practices. I’ve supported individuals across the lifespan as they’ve navigated trauma, anxiety, grief, and challenges in their relationships — whether stemming from the past or unfolding in the present.
I completed my EMDR training through the EMDR Institute and earned a master’s degree in Music Therapy and Counseling from Drexel University, where I was awarded the Artistry Award and inducted into the National Honor Society for Allied Health Professions. I also hold a master’s degree from Yale University and a BA from Boston University.
My work is grounded in empathy, attunement, and respect for each client’s unique process. My goal is to offer a steady, thoughtful presence — and a space where meaningful change can unfold.

Therapy Services
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a research-supported approach that helps the brain process traumatic memories or deeply held negative beliefs.
It allows you to move beyond experiences that may be holding you back — without needing to retell every detail. EMDR can reduce anxiety, support resilience, and help you feel more like yourself again.
Talk Therapy
I offer therapy that’s collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to your needs — whether you're facing anxiety, relationship challenges, or major life transitions.
Using a person-centered approach, I integrate methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and psychodynamic techniques to help you build resilience, self-awareness, and emotional clarity.
Music Therapy
Music therapy combines creativity with evidence-based support to promote emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
Sessions may include listening, playing instruments, songwriting, or other creative expression — always adapted to your goals.
Music therapy can ease stress, support self-expression, and promote personal growth in a flexible, creative space.
Rates & Payment
Individual therapy sessions are $200 for a 50-minute appointment. I’m an out-of-network provider, which means I don’t bill insurance directly — but many clients are able to get a significant portion of their fee reimbursed through out-of-network benefits, and in some cases, even the full amount. I’ll provide a detailed superbill to make that process as simple as possible.
I know therapy is a meaningful investment, and I work to ensure that every session feels focused, supportive, and worth your time.
You’ll find more details about payment, insurance, and cancellation policies on the FAQ page.
